Foundation
The Booy Foundation is named after the legendary Dutch professor C. (Kees) Booy (1921-2013), who introduced fixed orthodontic appliances in the 1960’s in the Netherlands and many other European countries. The foundation is a spin-off of a very successful congress of the European Begg Society of Orthodontics (EBSO) in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, in 1987. The then well-known influential Dutch orthodontist Gerrit Gelink from Hengelo (Overijssel) was president of the congress. Gelink (1936-2002) was trained at the University of Groningen by Booy and, as its first president, established the foundation after the congress. He named it after his famous teacher: the Booy Foundation. Evert Steutel, orthodontist in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, and also trained in Groningen by Booy, became treasurer of the foundation at the time. From 2002 till 2010 he was president. After that, he was appointed an honorary member of the foundation. From 2010 until now, Hayé Remmelink, an orthodontist from Almelo, Netherlands, has taken over the chairmanship. He is also a student of Booy.
Since its official establishment in 1988 the foundation organizes accredited orthodontic courses and congresses in the Netherlands. Primarily, the meetings are intended for orthodontists and members of orthodontic teams. The foundation’s guiding principle is to improving orthodontic care by high-quality meetings without commercial interests. This guarantees the quality and objectivity of the continuing education.
The Booy Foundation is an independent non-profit organization. The board consists of 3 orthodontists. These volunteers work entirely selfless for the foundation and receive no remuneration.
The foundation organizes small-scale conferences at pleasant locations with well-thought-out programs, renowned speakers and excellent catering.
